What is Zumba?

Zumba is an exhilarating fitness class that blends red-hot international music with several different dance styles; including: hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia, soca, ska, samba, salsa, merengue, axe and mambo.

Do I need a partner?

Nope!  No partner required for this dance party!

Do I need to know how to dance?  What if I can’t get the steps?

No, you don’t need to know how to dance!  The most important element is to let go of your inhibitions and have some fun. The more Zumba you do, the easier the steps will become.  In the meantime, I’m a BIG advocate of my participants going ‘free-style’ when my choreography isn’t happening for them

Am I too old/young to Zumba?

Zumba is self-paced so really anyone can join the party.  The age range in my classes is huge; 17 – 65 years old.  That said, some classes are more suited to certain populations than others (ie Zumba Gold for seniors, Zumbatomic for children). My classes are energetic but    I always present Hi Intensity and Low Intensity options so that everyone is able to enjoy the workout at their own pace.

Do I need to be fit?

People come to my class with their own fitness agenda; some to gain fitness and some to improve fitness;   Zumba caters to these goals. The Zumba atmosphere is  non-competitive, non-judgmental, fun and energetic.

Are all of the classes the same?

Every class is different - that’s the beauty of Zumba!

What if I have a pre-existing injury?

I am a certified Personal Trainer and First Aider however I require anyone with exercise restrictions (including heart problems, high blood pressure, chest pains, dizziness, relevant surgeries, diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, arthritis or significant injury to any part of the body) to receive the okay from their medical practitioner prior to participating in any of my classes.

Can I do it if I’m pregnant? Just had a baby?

I require that all pregnant women and those recently having given birth (within the last three months) receive the okay from their Medical Practitioner prior to participating in any of my classes.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothes; layers are always a good idea as you will get hot and need to shed a bit of clothing. I highly recommend a well-fitting sports bra as well as supportive trainers.

What should I bring?

Plenty of water and a towel to wipe your sweaty brow!

Will I get fit/lose weight?

Depending on your height, weight, age and the intensity you choose to work at, Zumba will burn anywhere from 350 – 750 calories in an hour.

How often should I come in order to see results?

It’s important to remember that any exercise is better than no exercise. That said, it is recommended that moderate/intense exercise     is undertaken 3-4 times a week in order to enjoy the true benefits of a healthier body.
